The Fire Chief is a paid full-time employee who oversees an essentially volunteer Fire Department which is responsible for:* putting out fires
* protecting life and property within the Town
The Chief is responsible for:
* administering the department and approving all rules and regulations for its operation
* appointing a deputy chief and other officers as well as volunteer firefighters
* supervises the purchase, maintenance, and repair of Fire Department property and apparatus, subject to the approval of the Select Board and Town Meeting appropriation
There are currently three fire stations in Town: Center Station, West Groton, and Lost Lake and approximately 40-45 officers and volunteer firefighters.
