Groton Architecture Sunday Series – Colonial and Federal eras (1660-1845)
Learn about how Groton’s architecture evolved and changed over the years, the Colonial and Federal eras (1660-1845), the Victorian Era (1837-1901), and the Historical Revival era (1885-1935). This class will spotlight important Groton buildings, mostly historic houses, and set them against the social and architectural trends of their periods.
Facilitator: Joshua Vollmar is a lifelong resident of Groton, and a scholar of architectural history. He has produced several scholarly works on Groton’s History while working at the Groton History Center over the past couple years. He also leads tours at Boutwell House of the Groton History Center and at the Old Manse in Concord. He is nearly finished with his first book, The Great Houses of Groton, on which this seminar is based. He is currently studying at UMass Lowell.
