Due to the huge influx of requests for Santa to make visits to individual homes on Christmas Eve, the Deputy Chief Elf has made the decision to alter the tradition slightly. The decision has been made to create a “Santa Route.” We have divided the town into three geographic areas of which three Santa’s will be traveling. We are also providing an estimated time when you may catch sight of Mr. Claus in your neighborhood along each route.
The goal of this is twofold; One, to have as many good children see Santa riding with his friends on the Fire Department, and two, to be able to shorten the amount of time our elves are out on the road. The elves that drive and assist Santa that evening volunteer their time away from family, on Christmas Eve, and in past years they have given up upwards of 4 hours in order to meet the requests.
We understand that some folks may have already put in a request for a Santa visit and we will do our best to honor those requests. We also hope that many of you will understand and be supportive of the change and will remain excited to take part in one of our favorite traditions in the Town of Groton.
This information is also posted on the Groton Fire Department Facebook Page.
