This beautiful Mass Audubon sanctuary lies within a state-designated Area of Critical Environmental Concern and supports nearly 100 species of birds and more than 240 plant species, as well as the state-listed Blanding’s and Eastern Box turtles. Explore the spring ecology of this sanctuary as birds migrate, insects respond and mammals prepare for the new season. We’ll pass by rocky terrain, perfect for resident porcupines, and enjoy an eye-level view of now-empty nests in an active heron rookery. Expect to walk about 2 miles over irregular terrain. Wear proper walking shoes, carry water, and feel free to bring binoculars if you have them.
Meet at Rocky Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, Cardinal Lane, Groton.
