Letter Regarding Pay Your Fair Share Demonstration
Please find below a letter from The Town of Groton’s Select Board to the Headmasters at The Groton School and Lawrence Academy.
Dear Headmaster Maqubela and Acting Head of School Margraf:
I am writing on behalf of the Groton Select Board to address the upcoming “Pay Your Fair Share Demonstration” scheduled to take place in Groton on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
We want to be clear that the Groton Select Board has not sanctioned, nor does it support or condone this demonstration. This event is being organized by a private group of citizens that does not represent or speak for the Town of Groton. The Select Board has made it clear to the organizers of the demonstration that we do not support their approach. The Select Board has consistently engaged with Groton School and Lawrence Academy in a professional and respectful manner and is committed to maintaining that standard of collaboration.
One of the Board’s primary objectives for this year is to work collaboratively with local non-profit partners to explore the potential for increased voluntary cash contributions. We appreciate the ongoing dialogue both of your institutions have had with the Town Manager’s PILOT Working Group and hope that the planned demonstration does not negatively impact our strong partnership.
The Select Board deeply values its relationship with both Groton School and Lawrence Academy and looks forward to continuing joint efforts for the benefit of our community.
