Drought Alert
Revised Water Conservation Program
Effective Immediately
Due to the lack of winter snow pack and our normal spring rains, Massachusetts is recording a deficit in the precipitation we would have normally received. This has led the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to declare our region at a “significant” drought risk. The Board of Water Commissioners must preserve the existing drinking water resources and not over pump the wells. The current capacity of our wells are at their capacity and over pumping them could pose a risk to the aquifers and the pumps themselves Therefore, in order to achieve this goal, the Board voted unanimously on June 21st 2022 to further restrict all lawn irrigation to one day per week.
Effective immediately: All outside lawn watering is limited to Saturdays and Sundays on an Odd/Even “only” schedule between the hours of 12:00 a.m. (midnight) to 9:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There shall be no lawn watering Monday through Friday until further notice.
We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, but the Board has the primary duty to provide clean potable drinking watering water to our customers first and foremost and green lawns secondary.
Thank you
Groton Board of Water Commissioners
